Punjab is the second-largest producer of cotton and blended-yarn and the third-largest producer of mill-made fabrics in India. Textiles have the largest share in the total exports, followed by cycles, cycle parts and rice. Exports from Punjab have grown from US$ 1.75 billion in 2004–05 to US$ 2.80 billion in 2006–07, at a CAGR of 26.7 per cent.
The per capita income in Punjab is amongst the highest in the country. Assets like four-wheelers, two- wheelers and television are indicators of consumer aspirations. A comparison of asset ownership by households in Punjab vis-a-vis all-India figures show that consumers in Punjab are way ahead in terms of their consumption pattern. For example, 9 per cent of Punjab's households own a four-wheeler as compared to the all-India figure of 4 per cent.

State Presentation (2007)
Punjab's economic performance has been impressive, the state's GDP grew by 8.3 per cent between 1999-2000 and 2004-2005 to reach US$ 19.55 billion.
Industrial output of agro-based industries in the state is roughly US$ 2.44 billion, contributing nearly 20 per cent to the manufacturing output and about 14 per cent to the employment. Organic farming is also a thrust area, with initiatives from the Punjab Agriculture Export Corporation.
